De Kikker (The frog)
The project
De Kikker is a primary school located in Osdorp and once designed by Liesbeth van der Pol of DOK architects. A thorough renovation of the bright-green facade is now necessary, and DOK architects and Solarix were called in by the Municipality of Amsterdam to make a proposal for a new facade. Even in the original planning, the architects wanted to generate energy through the facades, but this was not possible with the knowledge and skills of that time. Now with this renovation came a second chance.

Solarix solar facade
Solarix was asked by DOK to design a green solar panel that would give the facade of the primary school a fresh new energy-producing facade. Since there is no bright green in the Solarix collections, we entered into a tailor-made design process with the client and architect. The result is an unusual solar panel, consisting of different green and yellow tones and equipped with textured glass. This produces a cheerful, sparkling facade that suits the primary school and the energy of the sun.
Proces
DOK architects were asked by the Municipality of Amsterdam to advise on the renovation of the facade. They approached Solarix to work together to create an energy-generating facade. The Municipality was enthusiastic and managed to free up a sustainability budget for this and ultimately the entire contract was awarded to Kernbouw, with Solarix and Kuijpers as subcontractors.

DSM-Firmenich head office
In DSM's new head office, solar panels are integrated into repetitive elements in the facade.
Villa Lichtenberg
A beautifully designed, low-energy and maintained villa with a complete energy-generating facade. The facade is designed in a rhythmic pattern of various custom-made coloured solar panels in a combination of moss and sand tones.
Head office Kuijpers
Het kantoorgebouw van ingenieursbureau Kuijpers heeft een primeur. Dit is het eerste gebouw in de wereld waarbij in de gevel Solar Design in 2018 al is toegepast.
